The 2017 Australian Aikido Seminar was a five day course with Sensei Hughes. It was held in Caloundra, Queensland, with visitors both from the UK and France, in addition to the Australian members taking part.
Besides teaching the classes, Sensei Hughes presided over the Dan Gradings. Congratulations are due to Nina Parsons and Brett Duncan – both passed their 1st Dan Examination.
During the seminar, as well as the usual evening socials, a visit was arranged to Australia Zoo. Everyone went on this and learned about crocodile behaviour, and how to be safe around the waters where they might be found.
Following the seminar, some members went on to do a tour of the Queensland coastline, starting at Gold Coast, with a visit to the Dracula’s Cabaret Show. From there they went north to Cairns and Port Douglas. Here they explored the wonderful natural beauty of the area This included trips into and over the tropical rain forest, walking and swimming in Mossman Gorge, and snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef.
Whilst in Cairns a visit was made to a Samurai Museum. Here, members had the opportunity to see and handle katanas and other exhibits dating back to circa 1500 A.D.
Congratulations go to Adrian Smith and Lucy Nabb who got engaged to be married whilst travelling in a cable car over the rain forest canopy.
