Aikido is the Constant

17th Oct 2025

I started Aikido over 30 years ago, I’m a 6th Dan black belt and it has been a constant in my life from the day I started. I met my husband through Aikido too!

Aikido has given me a regular opportunity to exercise both my body and my mind and it’s taught me not to worry about things before they happen. All of my life I’ve been dealing with health issues and by learning to think about situations clearly and carefully, using my one point I am more relaxed about hospital visits and treatments.

A thing I love about Aikido is the people at our club in Hitchin and all the many friends I have made from my local area, around the country and even the world!

I find myself using Aikido principles every day in many situations e.g. negotiating best ways of doing things at work or at home when we need to consider another person’s point of view to ensure a good outcome.

Aikido is for every one of all ages and abilities and I enjoy practicing with beginners all the way through to high grades. It’s amazing what you can learn about yourself when you are with others. Just be prepared to change your mind about things and try going with the flow.
