Safeguarding

In 2024, The Children’s Society published the following definition…

Child protection and safeguarding means protecting children from abuse, and identifying and stopping abuse that might already be happening.

Vulnerable Adults

In 2024, AgeUK defined Vulnerable Adults as follows…

A vulnerable adult is a person over the age of 18 who may be in need of extra support. They may be deemed vulnerable due to their age, having a learning disability, physical disability, sensory impairment or mental health problem. They also may be unable to take care of themselves without the support of other adults and may be unable to protect themselves from harm.

Safeguarding and protection within the Ki Federation of Great Britain

Within our practice of Ki Aikido we do not use aggression, violence, pain or competition. This attitude naturally persists in the way we protect our junior students. This also applies to protecting vulnerable adults. The Ki Federation of Great Britain is committed to ensuring that correct policies are adhered to within our organisation.

When a student becomes a teacher of The Federation they are required to take out indemnity insurance and apply for an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) certificate. They are also provided with a teacher’s handbook which sets out our safeguarding policies. It contains the principles which must be adhered to by all clubs in The Ki Federation of Great Britain.

A senior Aikido teacher from the Ki Federation has been appointed as our Safeguarding Officer and should be the first point of contact if anyone has a concern that they wish to raise. The Safeguarding Officer can be contacted through the office.
